Chloramphenicol restores the polymorphonuclear accumulation in carrageenin-induced pleurisy in diabetic rats Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.

We investigated the effect of chloramphenicol succinate (30 mg/kg, every 12 h for 4 days, ip) on the reduced polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) accumulation in carrageenin-induced pleurisy (150 mug) in diabetic (alloxan, 40 mg/kg, IV) rats (Wistar, males, 180-320 g, n = 12). Chloramphenicol produced an increase (p<0.05) on PMN count in pleural exudate of 36% in normal animals. In the animals non-treated with chloramphenicol the diabetes state reduced (p<0.05) the accumulation of PMN cells by 45%. In diabetic animals treated with chloramphenicol the number of PMN in pleural exudate was similar to the one observed in the control group. Dissolution profile evaluation of solid pharmaceutical forms containing chloramphenicol marketed in Brazil BABT

The dissolution profile for solid pharmaceutical forms containing chloramphenicol 250 mg available in Brazil was determined using a method from the American Pharmacopoeia (United States Pharmacopoeia, 2004) and then compared. Two different methods of dissolution profile comparison were used: ANOVA, and an independent model. Differences between the formulations were reflected in the dissolution profiles. The presence of metastable polymorphs or amorphous forms of chloramphenicol palmitate might be responsible for variations in the concentration of the drug observed within formulations.

We studied and compared the effects of chloramphenicol antibiotic and garlic (Allium sativum), used as immunostimulants and growth promoters, on some physiological parameters, growth performance, survival rate, and bacteriological characteristics of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Fish (7±1g/fish) were assigned to eight treatments, with three replicates each. Treatment groups had a different level of Allium sativum (10, 20, 30, and 40g/kg diet) and chloramphenicol (15, 30, and 45mg/kg diet) added to their diets; the control group diet was free from garlic and antibiotic. Morphological Characteristics and Haematological Studies in Wistar Rats Subjected to Prolonged Treatment of Chloramphenicol International Journal of Morphology

The morphological characteristics and haematological studies were studied in fifteen male albino rats (Wistar Strain) aged between 12 and 14 weeks and with a body weight of 150- 180g. The rats were allowed to feed on commercially prepared rat pellet and provided with fresh water ad libitum. The rats were divided into three groups; the rats were in groups A, B and C of 5 rats each. Group A served as control of the study; Group B was treated with Chloramphenicol at the dose rate of 25mg/kg body weight per os for 20 days; while Group C was treated for 25 days. Survival and behavior of silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen, submitted to antibiotics and sodium chloride treatments Ciência Rural

In order to evaluate the use of antibiotics and NaCl on the behavior and survival of silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen, infested by Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and infected with Aeromonas hydrophila, juveniles were treated with chloramphenicol, chloramphenicol + salt, oxytetracycline, oxytetracycline + salt and water alone (control). Fish survival in the treatments with chloramphenicol + salt and oxytetracycline + salt was significantly higher than in the other treatments. The treatment with chloramphenicol presented higher survival than the treatment with oxytetracycline and both showed significantly higher survival than control.
